Realist Painting Course
The course will advance ten students through the standard steps of a 19th century academic curriculum, but at an accelerated pace. Classes will be held Wednesday nights at the artist’s studio, from 6 to 9 PM, for 18 months, starting Wednesday September 24, 2008.
Each fundamental will be separated out and studied individually through specific exercises. New concepts will build on previous ones. The course will start with the sight-size method. Students will study values by painting geometric shapes, plaster casts and copying masterworks. Opaque color mixing will be given special attention. Additional subject matter will include still life, portraiture and full figure. Long poses will eventually extend for several weeks. High school students will be taking the course so figure models will be somewhat covered.
As each new concept is introduced, a class handout will outline the concept and specific class exercises that target it. By the end of the 18 months, students will have the entire course in written form to refer back to.
Paints, brushes, odorless solvent are provided at the studio and are included with tuition. Drawing supplies and canvases must be supplied by the student.
The fee is $110 for 4 classes. Tuition for the full 18 months is not required -only a commitment to sticking with the course until the end.
The first month’s tuition is required in advance to secure your spot. If a check is received after all ten spots are filled, the instructor will contact you to discuss the option of a second class on Thursday AM, or Monday PM, or return the check if that is your wish.
